Our Story
Alwande Ulwazi Community Advice Centre (AUCAC) was founded by Asisithi Zihlangu to help rural communities understand their rights, access justice and participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their lives.
On 12 December 2019, AUCAC was officially registered as a Non-Profit Organisation. This milestone established the foundation for its community-based legal support, human-rights education and advocacy work in the rural Eastern Cape.
During 2020, AUCAC operated virtually, using platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp to connect with community members, share human-rights information and provide essential support.
This digital approach enabled AUCAC to remain accessible during the COVID-19 pandemic and laid the foundation for wider community outreach.
In May 2021, AUCAC opened its first physical office in Engcobo, marking its transition from virtual outreach to an accessible community-based service.
The office became a welcoming point for legal advice, consultations, referrals, human-rights education and community engagement.
In April 2022, AUCAC relocated its office from Engcobo to Ngqeleni, expanding its reach within Nyandeni Local Municipality and the wider OR Tambo District.
The move strengthened AUCAC’s ability to respond directly to rural community needs and build local partnerships for justice, human rights and community development.
